"California Tribes with or without federal recognition that demonstrate Tribal leadership support and Tribal Consortia are eligible for Tribal Technical Assistance grants."
How much
"Tribal Technical Assistance grants shall not exceed $250,000 per Tribe, per fiscal year." The March 2024 expansion (Decision 24-03-041) raised the cap to $250,000, added Tribal Consortia, and allowed several projects under one grant.
What it pays for
Market studies, feasibility studies, needs assessments, environmental and engineering design studies, broadband deployment-related grant writing, and business plans, among other work.
When to apply
Applications are accepted any time. CPUC reviews them in quarterly batches: October 1, January 1, April 1, and July 1. Deadlines on a weekend or holiday move to the next business day.
