Who it's for: families in Nevada County (and Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado and Alpine counties) who have a child with a developmental delay or disability. WarmLine "was founded by and is staffed by parents who share the common experience of parenting a child with developmental delays or disabilities."

What WarmLine does

  • Early Start support (birth to 3): help for families with infants and toddlers eligible for Early Start, California's early intervention program for children "ages birth to 3 years old with a developmental delay in one or more areas such as physical, cognitive, communication, social/emotional and self help."
  • Turning three: its guide Turning Three Years Old and individual consultations help families plan the move out of Early Start at age 3.
  • Family Empowerment Center (ages 3–22): "training and information to families of children and young adults with disabilities," peer-to-peer support, and help taking part in the IEP (special education) process. Guides include Understanding Special Education and Moving On: Transition to Adult Services (English and Spanish).
  • Parent groups and events across its counties.
Nevada County families: WarmLine's office is in Sacramento, but it says it offers "consultations and resources online so you can obtain information from the comfort of your home," and it attends resource fairs and events in each county it serves.
