For nonprofits, not individuals. These are local Soroptimist club mini-grants for 501(c)(3) organizations in Nevada County, CA that serve women and children. If you're an individual looking for help, this isn't the right resource — check the Live Your Dream Award (women returning to school) or our other guides.

What you can get

Two local Soroptimist clubs in Nevada County run small grant programs for nonprofits:
These are two separate clubs. You can apply to either or both if your project fits.

Who qualifies

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit (or a project with a fiscal sponsor that is 501(c)(3))
  • Project improves the lives of women and girls (and, for SIGV, children) in the local community — Nevada County for SIGV; broader Sierra Foothills area for SISF
  • Real, specific use of funds — they favor direct services over fundraising overhead

How to apply

SIGV (Grass Valley club) — up to $2,000

  1. Download the application from sigv.org/community-support/grant-program/
  1. Prepare a packet with:
      • Cover page with contact info
      • Proof of 501(c)(3) status (or fiscal sponsor letter)
      • Mission / vision statement
      • A proposal of no more than two pages describing the service, the community need, and exactly how you'd spend the money
      • Two budget sheets
  1. Format: Word or PDF, single-spaced, 12 pt font
  1. Submit by email to sigrassvalley@gmail.com
  1. Questions: Fran Freedle, (530) 446-1105
2026 cycle deadline was April 15, 2026 — that round is closed; funding decisions were announced May 1, 2026, with grants presented at the Celebration of Service event May 28, 2026. Watch sigv.org for the 2027 cycle announcement (typically opens late winter). SISF (Sierra Foothills club) — share of ~$10,000 pool

  1. Go to sierrasoroptimist.org → Projects & Grants page
  1. Download the current application form
  1. Submit per the instructions on that form
FLAG: SISF's published page does not list a specific 2026 application deadline or per-grant maximum as of 2026-05-17. Call or message the club via their Facebook page (Soroptimist of the Sierra Foothills) or write to P.O. Box 778, Grass Valley, CA 95945 to confirm the current cycle dates before preparing materials. Common pitfalls

  • These are small grants — don't pitch a $50,000 program. Ask for a specific, fundable slice (one workshop series, one piece of equipment, a season of supplies).
  • The "women and girls" focus is real. A general anti-poverty project that doesn't clearly center women/girls in its outcomes is a weak fit for either club.
  • Two pages means two pages. Long proposals get penalized.
  • Don't confuse the two clubs. SIGV and SISF have separate boards, separate applications, separate timelines.

Live Your Dream Award (for individual women, not nonprofits)

Both clubs also run the Live Your Dream Award — a $2,000 cash award for women who are the primary financial support for their families and are working toward higher education or skills training after overcoming hardship (poverty, domestic violence, divorce, loss of a spouse, etc.). That's a separate program for individuals — ask either club for the current application window. [Source: sierrasoroptimist.org/projects-grants (accessed 2026-05-17)]
