What Games for Love does
Games for Love is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings gaming, coding, and STEM opportunities to children in hospitals and to young people facing hardship. They run six connected programs that support kids from a hospital stay all the way to a tech career.
All six programs are still active in 2026 [Source: gamesforlove.org/programs (accessed 2026-05-17)].
The six programs
1UP LifeBRIDGE — Sends medical supplies and care support to sick children in hospitals in developing countries. Aimed at international partners and donors, not direct applicants.
GFL Experience (GFLX) — Delivers game consoles, tablets, and "distraction therapy" gaming equipment to children's hospitals. Hospitals and child-life departments apply — not individual families. They work with 200+ hospitals worldwide.
Kids of STEAM — A free online coding bootcamp for kids, including kids in long hospital stays. Goes from beginner to functional coder in about 90 days. Free for life once you're in.
Scholarships — Character-based scholarships for students who faced hardship growing up and want to study STEM in college.
Interns Int'l — Matches students and aspiring engineers with mentors and active dev teams for real industry experience.
League of Pros — A volunteer network of working tech, gaming, and STEM professionals who mentor kids in the other programs.
Who this is for
- Families with a child in a long hospital stay — ask the hospital's child-life or recreation team if they partner with Games for Love (GFLX).

- Students who faced childhood hardship and are heading to a STEM major — apply for the scholarship.
