Verified 2026-07-02 (TechEmpower screener corpus — techempower.org/qualify; payment standards from the state's own Rev. 1/26 chart).
SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is monthly cash for people 65+ or blind/disabled with low income — and California adds a State Supplementary Payment on top. The combined 2026 standards are up to $1,233.94/month (single) and $2,098.83/month (couple) for aged/disabled independent living (blind rates are higher).
Good to know
- Countable resources must stay under $2,000 (single) / $3,000 (couple) — your home and usually one vehicle don't count.
- It's mainly your own income that counts, not everyone in the house.
- Getting SSI unlocks other programs (CalFresh, utility discounts, water-bill discounts, and more treat SSI as an automatic qualifier).
- The 2026 standards took effect Jan 1, 2026 (federal portion $994/$1,491 after the 2.8% COLA).
