The Statewide Self-Advocacy Network (SSAN) is a California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) program that connects self-advocates with developmental or intellectual disabilities to statewide leadership, training, and policy work. It is not a direct-service program — it is a leadership and voice network.

Who it's for
- Adults in California with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) who want to develop leadership and advocacy skills.
- Family members, regional center clients, and disability-community allies who want to follow what SSAN is working on (meeting packets and newsletters are public).
- Youth with disabilities — SSAN has a separate youth feedback channel (Youth Survey).
What to actually do
- Just want to listen first? Open meetings are held quarterly on Zoom. Next confirmed dates (per SCDD):
- September 3–4, 2025
- December 10–11, 2025
- March 4–5, 2026
Zoom links, agendas, and packets are posted on the SCDD calendar and the SSAN page a few weeks before each meeting.
- Want to join as a member? Read the Membership Application Process and Checklist, the Member Description, and submit the Membership Application. Members are appointed by region.
- Need help or have questions? Contact Riana Hardin at SCDD: Riana.Hardin@scdd.ca.gov.
- Want training resources without joining? The Self-Advocacy Resource and Technical Assistance Center (SARTAC) is the national partner — free toolkits, leadership courses, and plain-language guides.
What to skip
- Don't worry about the long meeting archive below if you're new — most people only need the next upcoming meeting's agenda. Older packets are useful for researchers and current members.
- This is not where you go for direct services (housing, IHSS, regional center caseworker support). For those, contact your local regional center or SCDD regional office.
SSAN Bylaws and process documents
